About Magma
Under the Elemental label, Magma is a grinding fruit. Its fist-shaped projectiles leave scorching puddles behind, and NPCs caught in them stay stunned until the puddle ends. With the right setup that is extremely good for farming, and damage is high on several moves. You are also immune to lava.
A small trick worth learning: one move can be spammed on your own position, which helps you escape a combo, including an NPC's click combo. And if a boat drives into one of your puddles, it stops dead.
PvP is where it gets frustrating. Most moves have high end-lag, several briefly stun you after casting, projectiles are slow and range is short, so a Flash Step or even a plain dash avoids them. Missed moves get punished.
Awakening changes the range picture: awakened projectiles do not despawn even past 2500 meters, although one move loses its puddles in the awakened form. We would pick Magma for levelling and compare it with Light if travel speed matters more to you.
