Pick Mammoth for the sea, not for racing between islands. Transformed [M1] attacks can hit Sea Beasts, holding an attack keeps the damage going, and the armored form adds a lot of defense. Sea Events and raids are where this fruit earns its place. Speed and mobility are its weak side, and it never hides that.

In PvP, big hitboxes and extra defense give it a real edge against Tiger. It also answers Yeti: hold the transformed attack through Yeti's [C] Glacial Execution and [F] Tundra Rush. Outside those matchups, expect to work for every hit. Some moves cannot aim vertically, one is affected by physics and goes wrong in midair, and the transformation gives you no i-frames.

The jump is worth learning. Damage lands on the landing rather than the takeoff, it has good AoE, and it resets your air jumps. Tapping the water surface with it lets a non-Shark player escape water while taking little or no damage. Transforming does not need a Fury Meter either.

Mastery requirements are high and grinding with it is mediocre, so we see Mammoth as a fruit for Sea Events and raids rather than one to level on.
