If you are under level 300 in the First Sea and want an easy grinding fruit, Smoke is worth a look; past that, we would not bother. It has an Elemental Reflex, mastery requirements are very low, and damage builds up fast when enemies stay inside the cloud. It can keep hurting them indefinitely as long as nobody hits you.

The move to remember is [C] Smoke Liberation. Its stun is strong enough to carry combos, and it is the main reason Smoke sees any PvP use. Every move breaks Instinct and can damage Sea Beasts, and startup is very quick.

Range is the problem. Almost everything reaches only a short distance, opponents can Flash Step out after the first hit, and the smoke clutters your own screen. Flight is fairly slow too. Players outgrow it quickly, and Flame is a natural next step for anyone who liked the Elemental playstyle.

A physical Smoke is cheap and common, so treat it as filler in a trade rather than a reason to accept one.
