Dog House Event: a sword, a frame break and the fastest value moves of the summer
Update {xfvalue_updver} · released 29 July 2026
What this update touched
What happened to the values
The Dog House Event, on 29 July 2026, looked small in the patch notes: one new sword, one new NPC, and a tidy-up of the skins and mutations inventory into a Configurator. Three lines. It ended up producing some of the sharpest value moves we have recorded.
What was actually in it
The sword is Dog Blade. The event also carried the items collectors now chase: the Rabid variant and the Doghouse frame break, the kind of cosmetic that exists for one window and then only through trades.
The Configurator rework matters more than it reads. Sword skins now show up in your inventory properly, which is the quiet change that turns a cosmetic into a tradeable item people can actually see and show off.
The numbers
These items entered our price list after the event and then climbed hard. Over a recent 30-day window the Rabid variant and the plain Dog Blade were the two biggest risers on the whole site, and the Doghouse frame break was not far behind. Nothing about them changed in the game during that time. The supply simply stopped while the number of people who wanted one kept growing.
You can watch the same thing in the chart above: lines that only move in one direction, with no update anywhere near them.
The trap
Fast risers are where traders lose the most. A line that has gone up for a month looks like a line that will keep going up, and that is exactly when people overpay. Event items do flatten out, usually when the next event gives everyone something new to chase, and the ones that flatten highest are the ones with the smallest original window.
Before you build an offer around one of these, check two things on its page: how long the history actually is, and what the demand figure says. A short history with high demand is a fair bet. A short history with low demand is somebody else's exit.
What we would do
If you were in the event and you are holding these, you are in the good position: you got them at zero and the market came to you. There is no reason to dump them.
If you want one now, treat the current price as the price of being late. Our advice is to go for the plain version rather than the variant unless you collect seriously — the variants carry most of the premium and the largest share of the risk.
Why the Configurator mattered
Buried in the patch notes was a rework of how skins and mutations sit in your inventory, and a fix that made the Dark Blade Slayer skin render properly. Small change, real consequence: a cosmetic nobody can see is worth very little, and one that shows up cleanly in your inventory and in the world is something people will pay for.
That is worth remembering the next time a patch mentions inventory or display work. The game does not announce value changes, but it does announce the things that cause them.
Event items and the calendar
Limited drops follow the calendar more than the meta. The quiet months are when they climb, because nothing new is competing for attention. The weeks around a big event are when they stall, because everyone is spending on the new thing.
If you plan to sell an event item, the window just before the next event is usually the best one you will get. If you plan to buy, wait until the new event is in full swing and the previous drop has gone quiet.
Either way, run the offer through the trade calculator first, and look at the demand figure rather than the headline value. For items this new, demand is the honest number.
