Our take
Both play with pulling things around, and that is where the similarity stops. Gravity is an older mythical that settled near the bottom of its class; Magnet came in with Update 30 and sits far above it.
New fruits carry a premium while everyone wants to try them, and that premium fades. We have watched it happen with every big release, so if you are trading into Magnet right now you are paying for novelty as well as for the fruit.
Gravity is the cheap way to get a similar feel: meteors, pull, heavy area damage. It will not impress anyone in a trade server, but it costs a fraction of what the newer fruit does.
